Introduction to Smartphones

A smartphone is basically a small portable device which combines cell phone and internet/wireless internet functions into a single device. The term smartphone can be used to refer to any of the various models of smart phones from Nokia, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. Smartphones are ideal for people who use a lot of applications or do a lot of web browsing because most devices come with the default web browser installed. The major differences between a smartphone phone are their mobility and their basic set up and use.

Smartphones are extremely compact because they have very limited memory and processing power. Thus, the user needs to load all the apps and files required by the mobile phone and run these on the go in order to maximize the phone’s capabilities. A smartphone runs on the mobile phone operating system which is preinstalled in the phone. The operating system of the smart phone determines the features available and the way in which the phone functions. It also determines the default features of the mobile phone such as camera and music players. The operating system of the smartphone determines the display type, the data interface, the data management and many other features available on the mobile phone.

The first smartphone was introduced in the market by the Japanese company Sony Ericsson in the year 2021. Soon after the first smartphone, several other manufacturers joined the bandwagon and created more advanced smartphones with better features and increased functionality. Today, millions of users use smartphones and many more purchase smartphones every day. In this respect, it can be said that smartphones have changed the way people communicate, conduct business and get information.
