New York Online Poker

The State of New York has considered legalizing online poker, but the debate over whether the state should do so is far from over. The State Senate’s Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee passed a bill in 2016, but it never made it out of committee. However, similar legislation passed the Assembly in 2017 by a large margin, 54-8, but failed to get past the State Assembly’s Standing Committee on Racing and Wagering. Despite the hurdles, the State Senate has shown some signs of willingness to give legalized online poker a second chance.

The US is a great place to play online poker, but the UIGEA hasn’t made it legal everywhere. While Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia all have laws preventing online poker, the majority of poker sites accept players from all 50 states. Despite the difficulties, the industry continues to grow and develop. The UIGEA is still the most cited barrier to legalizing online poker, but more states are considering legislation to prevent the practice.
